  • Reached Duat while discovering Nefertiti's Tomb
  • Where can I find specific street performers in Unity?

So I was listening to MrTouloir's old playlist of tavern songs from Unity and had a thought. Where in the game can these songs actually be heard? Like in all the years of playing and replaying Unity, I don't much remember these songs at all. I have vivid memories of the shanties and tavern songs from Black Flag and Rogue, and also the pub and street performers from Syndicate. But nothing from Unity. Like obviously they exist but I don't remember them at all.

So I fired up Unity to roam the streets of Paris and see for myself. I was able to find a four man band that plays three tunes on repeat. I'm talking about these guys here. In fact this band is quite common as it seems like I was finding these guys on every street corner. I'm not even kidding, they're the most common street performers in the game. Sometimes there's even two of this same band within like a block of each other.

I also found a similar band that also has a singer. One of the places they can be found is at the center of the Place Vendôme. Of the songs on MrTouloir's playlist, this band sings V'la l'bon vent, Fanchon, and Le Prince Eugène.

And much less common is a woman and a guy with a hurdy gurdy. They sing Le grand projet, Rossignol du bois sauvage, and La blanche biche. The only two places I found them was at a bonfire near Notre-Dame and along the Seine near the Tuileries.

Lastly is Auprès de ma blonde. According to a comment under the video, this song can be heard playing on the streets but I've only ever heard it during "A Dinner Engagement".

So there's still six more songs on the playlist that I have not heard in the game. I've been running around all over Paris but for the life of me I can't find any street performers that sing these other songs. Can anyone let me know where in Paris I can find these other songs? Or if these songs are only in specific missions like Auprès de ma blonde.

  • Nothing will ever touch the lighting in Unity
  • Thoughts around AC Unity (no spoilers)

As someone who began with the rpgs and went back to play the initial games, I know how flawed a game can be and I can still enjoy it while acknowledging its flaws. But honestly, I never had so many mixed feelings about a game before. I get it was quite experimental as the start of the big transition of the play style so it may have been rushed but still something I'm going crazy over.

It's not the game mechanics itself, in fact, those were quite well for a change and the graphics were absolutely gorgeous. Its the story.

The French revolution setting might be one of my favourites among all games and I think it was excuted decently aside from small issues here and there BUT for how much its rubbed in your face the story barely touches on its history. I get that killing most targets contributed to the cause of fighting corruption and that neither the Templars nor the Assassin should be taking sides explicitly but its mentioned a bit too little other than "oh how bad france came to be" in the story itself. I'm not saying it should be abundent as in ac 3 because not everyone plays for the history but atleast find a middle ground.

Now for the protagonist, Arno Dorian.

All that stuff that happened with the brotherhood aside, I have a question: Was he intended to be so detached from the chaos happening around him (as a man who lived his whole life higher than the working class) and the injustice people were facing or did the game just completely dismiss it?(I hope it's the first because it'd make more sense and a good choice imo. I was going to compare him on this aspect with Ratonhnhaké:ton but it wouldn't be so logical as Ratonhnhaké:ton was directly oppressed by the circumstances.)

I feel that he had so little inner monologue we almost don't get his stance on anything happening in the game other than the 90 second cutscenes every now and then. I needed to see more of him.

I'm aware that the main theme was him dealing with grief and fear of losing the people close to him, and that finally by the end of the game he grows in this aspect. And i think its done well. Regardless, a lot feels missing.

Honestly I think it would all be alright if they published something like the forsaken novel.

    Any thoughts?
